AITA for Letting My Friend Cancel Her Plane Ticket After We Argued About Her Bringing Her New Boyfriend on Our Girls’ Trip?

My best friend and I had been planning a girls’ trip to Barcelona for months. It was something we’d always talked about—a chance to catch up, explore the city, and just enjoy some quality time together, just the two of us.

Two weeks before the trip, she started dating someone new. She was really into him and talked about him constantly, which I was happy for. But then she told me she was thinking of inviting him to join us on our trip. At first, I didn’t think much of it, but as she kept bringing it up, I started to feel uneasy.

This was supposed to be a girls’ trip—a special time for the two of us to bond. I didn’t want to share that with a third person, especially someone I barely knew. I explained this to her as kindly as I could, telling her that I was really looking forward to spending time with her one-on-one.

She didn’t take it well. She said I was being selfish and unreasonable, that I should be happy she’d found someone special, and that her boyfriend wouldn’t disrupt the trip. I disagreed and told her I felt it would change the whole dynamic.

We argued about it for a couple of days. She kept insisting that he’d only join us for part of the trip and that it wasn’t a big deal, but I stood my ground. I reminded her how long we’d been planning this as a girls’ trip and how much it meant to me. Eventually, she said, “If he can’t come, I’m not going either.”

At first, I thought she was bluffing, but then she went ahead and canceled her ticket. She told me she wasn’t going to Barcelona if I wouldn’t let her bring her boyfriend. I was stunned. I didn’t want to lose my best friend over this, but I also felt like I wasn’t wrong for wanting to keep the original plan.

Now I feel torn—guilty for how things turned out but also frustrated that she put me in this position. I never wanted the trip to fall apart, but I also feel like my feelings about it were valid.

Was I out of line for sticking to the original plan, or is she being too dramatic? AITA?
