People often emphasize the idea of marrying the person you love. While that sounds romantic, love alone doesn’t always guarantee a successful marriage. Sometimes, the person you deeply love might not be the best partner for your long-term happiness, future, or shared goals.

There might be someone else—someone you don’t feel an intense romantic connection with right away but who is a better fit for your life, future aspirations, and the kind of partnership that leads to a stable and fulfilling marriage. Ideally, love and compatibility align, but if you’re in love with someone yet can see clear signs that you’re not compatible for the long haul, it may be wiser not to marry them.

Instead, consider marrying someone with whom you see a sustainable, successful future. Even if the feelings of love aren’t as overwhelming now, love can grow over time. Marriage should be a decision based on logic and compatibility, not just romantic feelings.

EDIT:
I want to clarify—I’m not suggesting you should marry someone you don’t love or aren’t attracted to at all. That’s not what I mean. What I’m saying is that love doesn’t always need to be the intense, “madly in love” experience society often portrays. If you know a person is a better match in terms of compatibility and long-term goals, it’s okay to prioritize those factors, even if the love isn’t all-consuming right now. Love can deepen as the relationship grows.

EDIT 2:
I think some people misunderstood the premise of this post. The point is that love isn’t enough by itself to sustain a marriage. Marrying someone purely based on your feelings of love, without considering whether your goals, values, and life plans align, isn’t the wisest decision. You might truly love someone, but if you know your differences in career, lifestyle, or values will cause issues in the future, marrying them would likely lead to problems. Marriage should involve a balance of emotions and logic to ensure long-term success.
