Park in Driveway? Get Stuck for 2 Weeks

This is a story I heard from a friend today, and I immediately knew this subreddit was the perfect place for it.

For context, my friend’s house has a small driveway flanked by large bushes, making it impossible to use without blocking the whole space. His house is right next to a very popular park. On the 4th of July, the park was packed, and street parking was nearly impossible to find. While my friend was away, some Karen decided to park her car in his driveway.

When my friend returned home and found the car there, he parked his rarely used car right behind hers, completely blocking the driveway. Then he went inside. Not long after, there was a knock at his door—it was Karen. She demanded that he “let her car out this very instant,” stomping as she exaggerated every syllable. My friend simply closed the door in her face.

Karen called the police, but they told her that my friend was parked legally in his own driveway. Furious, she stormed off and got a ride with someone else, threatening to call her lawyer if the car wasn’t moved by the morning.

The next day, Karen came back and started banging on his door again, complaining about the inconvenience of using rideshares. She let it slip that the car was a rental, and she was visiting family nearby. She even tried to guilt-trip him, saying, “The kids need my car to get around—they’ll be so sad!” My friend ignored her and shut the door again.

For the next two weeks, Karen returned daily, screaming and demanding her car be let out. Turns out, she had planned to leave town two days after the 4th but was forced to extend her stay just to retrieve the rental car. Her family apparently got so fed up with her antics that they kicked her out after a week.

Eventually, my friend moved his car—but not before calling a towing company to haul Karen’s car away. He then informed her of the tow, adding a final layer of frustration to her ordeal.

Months later, she actually sent him a bill for over $5,000, claiming costs for her extended hotel stay, the rental car fees, the impound charges, and meals at some of the most expensive restaurants in town. My friend took one look at the bill and tossed it in the trash.

Moral of the story: don’t park in someone else’s driveway.
