I (18M) work as a delivery driver for Domino’s, and today (Christmas 2024), I had a delivery mishap that I’ll probably never forget. While dropping off a stack of four pizzas at a customer’s house (as per their instructions), I placed them on the ground near the door. As I turned to grab my pizza bag, I accidentally bumped the top box. The pizza inside went flying and landed upside down.
In my head, I was yelling, “SHIIT, FUCKK,” but instead of owning up to it, I made a snap decision (and yeah, an asshole move). I flipped the pizza back upright, placed it neatly on the stack, and marked the order as delivered. I drove off, praying they wouldn’t notice.
When I got back to the store, I was still anxious. A few minutes later, my manager called me to the front. Initially, I thought he just needed me for something routine, like taking out the trash. Instead, he pointed to the order screen and asked, “Was this your delivery?” My stomach dropped.
Trying to play it cool, I said, “Yeah, that’s the last one I took.” Meanwhile, I was panicking, convinced I was about to get written up or sent back to apologize. My manager continued, “They’re saying they didn’t get the order.”
At this point, I started questioning if I had delivered to the wrong house. I double-checked the address, but nope—it was definitely the right place. I told my manager, “Yeah, that’s the house I delivered to.” He replied, “Alright, you’re good,” and resumed the phone call.
Relieved but still freaking out internally, I went back to work. A few minutes later, my manager explained that the customer had mis-typed their address.
So basically, the wrong house got the delivery—including the upside-down pizza.
Fun fact: In my eight months on this job, I’ve never dropped or damaged an order before. I’ve also never delivered to the wrong house—until today, when it wasn’t even my fault. What are the odds that my one pizza-dropping disaster coincided with a mis-typed address?
TL;DR: I accidentally flipped a customer’s pizza upside down but played it off, only to find out later they typed the wrong address—so it didn’t matter.
